Study “Chemical requirements for child use and care articles”

A further study commissioned by the Consumer Council covers chemicals in child use and care articles. These include products to safely ensure and facilitate seating, bathing, changing and general body care, feeding, sleeping, sucking, dressing, transportation and protection of children. Currently only few chemical requirements (contained in annex XVII of REACH or in some European standards) apply to this product group. Hence, children may be exposed to dangerous chemicals from child use and care articles. The report suggests to restrict chemicals in a similar way as has been suggested for toys in the former Consumer Council study “Chemical requirements for toys” (see News 29.11.2013). This study is available as PDF-file.
