Further studies about e-cigarettes

In addition to the two reports published last year two further studies were conducted on this subject in 2018. The first one deals with flavouring substances in e-liquids. A total of 170 of such substances could be identified (there are probably many more). For 35 flavourings provisional thresholds were proposed. The aim of the second work was to review certain results of the first two studies and to fill some gaps. It could be shown that no fundamental changes were needed.

Overall it has been shown that the measured values found in literature for the observed substances were often (sometimes significantly) above the proposed thresholds. Conversely, many of the measured values were also (but not always) below the suggested thresholds. Hence, it seems in principle feasible to manufacture e-cigarettes and e-liquids which are not harmful to health.

Both studies are available here for download.
