Round table on chemicals in products
Under the patronage of the Member of the European Parliament Christel Schaldemose a round table concerning “Less hazardous chemicals in our products For a non-toxic Europe” was held in Brussels on 3 March. This event was jointly organised by the Consumer Council and its European umbrella organisation ANEC.
Whilst the EU has set itself the objective of a “non-toxic environment”, effective tools for protecting consumers against hazardous chemicals in products and for preventing their release into the environment are missing. The European chemicals legislation (REACH) cannot compensate for these deficits. Hence, an initiative is required to close regulatory gaps for priority product groups.
